Trauma
Trauma is a significant issue for the majority of people involved in drug treatment and child welfare. Adults and children alike have experienced events ranging from abuse and neglect to abandonment to rape, incest, and other acts of violence. And for many people, the trauma was not a single event. Instead, it has been a long-term experience that has accumulated over time.
For adults, the trauma often leaves lasting scars. For children, the traumas are still fresh, and may be replayed on a regular basis.
