Impact of Substance Abuse on Families

When most people think about substance abuse and families, they focus on the ways active addiction disrupts family processes.  And of course this is a concern.  But it is a mistake to think that everything will run smoothly, or “be back to normal” once a parent enters treatment.

Click below to learn more about the impact of the following phases:

Active Addiction

When a parent is actively abusing drugs, before he or she has entered treatment.

Treatment

Once a parent has been admitted into a treatment program.

Reunification

When parent and child come together again, after treatment.
