Center on Addiction and the Family

an affiliate of Phoenix House

When the problem is alcohol or other drug abuse, COAF speaks for, to and about the family. COAF is the Center on Addiction and the Family, and it is a national affiliate of Phoenix House.

COAF works to:

  • promote family services within Phoenix House and other substance abuse treatment programs
  • increase cross-systems collaboration between drug treatment, child welfare, and family court in New York and other parts of the country

This project, which was developed through the generous support of The Hite Foundation, was undertaken to help professionals working with vulnerable families involved with drug treatment, child welfare, and family court in New York City.   COAF has put together information on these three systems in one single site, making it easier for professionasl to find the tools and resources they need to collaborate with each other and promote better outcomes for families.

To acheive its goals, COAF:

  • Provides information, training, and support to individuals, families and professionals, focusing on substance abuse, child welfare, and court
  • Develops new therapeutic and informational resources and tools
  • Helps organizations and professionals deliver family-informed services
  • Participates in the development of new policies and programs
